Project history

The official README presents AthenaCLI as a command-line interface for AWS Athena and says it is a member of the dbcli community. Its credits are unusually explicit: the author thanks pgcli and mycli, says AthenaCLI was created based on a clone of mycli, and credits PyAthena as the pure-Python Athena adapter underneath the tool.

That lineage explains the shape of the project.
