git-remote-gcrypt is a Git remote helper for storing Git repositories in a GnuPG-encrypted representation. It occupies the small but durable niche of making ordinary Git transports usable with untrusted storage while keeping repository contents confidential.

Historique du projet

The project was originally written by bluss, then maintained de facto by Joey Hess during 2013 and 2014. Sean Whitton adopted the Debian package in early 2016 and took over upstream maintenance with the 1.0.0 release later that year.

Its evolution has stayed close to Git and GnuPG plumbing: the 2013 packaging series added git-annex interoperability fixes and participant-publishing controls, the 2016 upstream handoff removed the warning that the repository format might change, and later releases added backend and safety refinements such as rclone support and an explicit force-push guard.
